The Children’s Library with around 300 seats is located in the southwest of Beijing Library on the first floor, covering an indoor area of 4,000 square meters and a design collection of 60,000 books. In addition to the indoor space, it includes Children’s Playground for outdoor reading that spans 2,500 square meters, which is currently the largest outdoor reading space for children in China.
With the mission of “cultivating future readers”, the Children’s Library is dedicated to creating a child-centered public cultural space that features advancement, comfort, safety and friendliness. The Children’s Library not only provides basic library services such as book borrowing, reading guidance, reading activities, and exhibitions, but also enables immersive reading, in-depth learning,communication and creation through a series of high-tech equipment and facilities such as smart exhibitions and 4D viewing, allowing children to enjoy a wonderful reading experience in a modern library that is intelligently empowered and cloud-connected.
To cater to the reading needs and characteristics of children of different ages, the Children’s Library is divided into South Zone and North Zone. The South Zone serves children aged 0 to 6, while the North Zone caters to children aged 6 to 12. Additionally, the library provides access to Eight children digital resource libraries, including the CLCN Online Animation Database that was independently developed by CLCN, as well as a wide range of multidimensional digital resources like picture books, periodicals, newspapers, bilingual reading materials and AR (Augmented Reality) popular science materials.
The South Zone provides Chinese and foreign language book borrowing and reading services, with Chinese language books mainly including picture books and fairy tales for children, and recommends award-winning books, theme books and other unique books. The North Zone provides the borrowing and reading services for Chinese language books in all categories, and offers multimedia and digital resources reading services, children’s theater and 4D cinema to bring digital, high-tech reading experience to eaders.
